SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Myles Turner defeated Rudy Gobert and the Indiana Pacers toppled the Utah Jazz.
Malcolm Brogdon scored 30 points, a season-high, and picked up nine rebounds, leading the Pacers to a 111-100 victory Thursday night, ending Utah’s undefeated start at home.
Turner, Gobert, Donovan Mitchell and Joe Ingles were kicked out with 4:01 to go. Turner pushed Gobert away, planting his shoulder behind his back after a failed layup. Gobert responded by hugging him and trying to pin Turner to the ground. The two players had to be separated near the basket in front of the Pacers bench.
Turner blamed Gobert for the brawl which knocked him to the ground after the initial play.
“I had to defend myself in this situation,” Turner said. “I don’t think I did anything wrong. But that’s not for me to decide. We’ll talk to the league and see what happens from there.
Brogdon played the eighth game with 30 points of his career and TJ McConnell added 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists off the bench for the Pacers. Turner had 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Pacers finished 2-2 on their road trip after their second road win of the season.
“We have a resilient group,” said Brogdon. “We have a group that is maturing and a group that improves and hardens. We must continue to build on it. “
Mitchell scored 26 points and Gobert added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mitchell blamed the brawl on accumulated frustration with the referees allowing too much contact early in the game.
“It could have been avoided – you just have to draw the line early, instead of letting it build up for the whole game,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell got off to a quick start and gave the Jazz a boost. But after Bojan Bogdanovic led for a layup to give Utah a 42-38 lead midway through the second quarter, the Pacers limited the Jazz to just four baskets in the final 6 1/2 minutes before halfway. -time. Meanwhile, Indiana smashed the boards and repeatedly scored second chance baskets to come back in front.
The Pacers ended the half on an 11-3 streak punctuated by back-to-back McConnell baskets and took a 60-51 lead.
“They managed to get in the paint against us by putting pressure on the rim,” said Jazz coach Quin Snyder. “It wasn’t just our guards. It was breakdowns in a lot of different areas. “
Gobert scored 11 points in the third quarter to help the Jazz recover briefly. Turner and Brogdon combined to score three points from three straight possessions to quell the run and extend the Pacers’ lead to 83-74.
“It’s a top-five team in the league. But we brought a great level of fighting to the game and we managed to do it, ”said Pacers coach Rick Carlisle.
Utah didn’t come close to five points in the fourth quarter and their hopes of a comeback were dashed by throws from Mitchell and Gobert late in the quarter.
“We lacked physics,” said Gobert. “We let them take way too many offensive rebounds. It was the most aggressive team tonight. We did a couple of runs, but you know we couldn’t get the stops we needed.
Pacers: Caris LaVert was out for a second game in a row (lower back pain). . Martin scored a high 14 points off the bench. . Indiana scored 18 second chance points on 12 offensive rebounds in the first half.

Turner has blocked three shots, the ninth time in 13 games that he has blocked three or more shots. His ability to modify other shots and pick up plenty of rebounds led Brogdon to declare after the game that Turner deserved to be named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year this season.
“We have the best defensive player in the league on our team,” said Brogdon. “I hope people saw this tonight. We had the best defensive player playing against the second best defensive player in the league tonight.
