SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Major League Soccer has approved the sale of Real Salt Lake to David Blitzer and Smith Entertainment Group.
Blitzer also owns a stake in the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, the New Jersey Devils of the NHL and the Crystal Palace of the Premier League. Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan Smith, owns the Utah Jazz of the NBA.
The league’s board of governors on Wednesday announced approval of the sale. The deal includes the Rio Tinto stadium, RSL Academy, the MLS Next Pro Real Monarchs team and the club’s Zions Bank training center. A press conference presenting the new owners was scheduled for Thursday.

Dell Loy Hansen was the club’s former owner but put it up for sale in August 2020 after reports surfaced that he made racist comments. Unable to find a buyer, the league resumed the sale process in January 2021.
