Virgin Radio launches LGBT + station with hosts including Drag Race United KingdomTia Kofi and BBC Radio non-binary presenter Shivani Dave.

The radio station, called Virgin Radio Pride UK, will air from June 7 until the end of September.

Other participating queer presenters include queer radio DJs Vicki Blight, Phil Clifton, Stephen Sullivan, Debbie Ryan and Emma Goswell.

During its broadcast, the station will partner with local pride celebrations, including in Blackpool and Oxford, as well as charities and causes such as the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the health charity Mental Shout and The Food Chain, a charity that provides cooking and cooking classes for people living with HIV.

The station will invite guests to discuss topics such as trans rights, same-sex adoption, living with HIV and parenting LGBT + children.

Drag Race United Kingdom Star Tia Kofi took to Twitter to announce the news that she would host her “own weekly radio show” on Pride UK, adding that it was an “absolute dream come true”.

She also called on fans to suggest lesser-known queer artists, tweeting: “Comment on queer artists you think should be featured #VirginRadioPride and I will listen to them!

“Let’s spread the love and share the spotlight this pride season.”

Writer and fellow host Matt Cain, who will host a weekly Pride UK show called “The Sunday Roast”, replied: “Welcome to the family! It’s going to be such a laugh!

BBC Radio Wiltshire presenter Shivani Dave, who came out live non-binary last year, said on Instagram that they would host on the radio from “4 pm to 7 pm every day of the week”.

They added: “Radio has always had the power to bring people together, like no other medium can.

“At a time when our community is targeted and even more marginalized, it is incredibly powerful that Virgin Radio UK dedicates an entire station to all LGBTQ + people to celebrate and share their experiences.

“I’m honored to be a part of it and can’t wait to laugh, cry and dance with the listeners.”

From June 7, the Pride UK radio station will be available to listen to on DAB in London, online and on the Virgin Radio app.
